Changing narratives of energy efficiency in times of energy crisis

12 October 2022

13:30 - 15:00

In the context of rising energy prices and unstable supplies, new alternatives such as decarbonised district heating offer great solutions to avoid gas and further decarbonise our energy systems. Energy efficiency and the integration of waste heat and renewables in the systems provide for circular, more affordable and secure heating and cooling alternatives compared to imported gas and fossil fuels, especially within the challenging geopolitical / economical context. This webinar is organised in the frame of the Energy Efficiency Watch 4 and Decarb City Pipes 2050 projects.

13:30-13:45 Setting the scene – Kristina Dely, Energy Cities, Energy Efficiency Watch project

13:45-14:30 Sharing experiences

  • Ada Amon, City of Budapest – Crisis strategy, investments and changing narratives in Budapest
  • Ion Dogeanu, Bucharest, Sector 1, AEEPM – Large scale energy efficiency refurbishment in Bucharest’s building stock
  • Peter Lichtenwoehrer, City of Vienna – From gas dependence towards effective solutions: Vienna’s strategy
  • Astrid Madsen, Decarb City Pipes 2050 – Heating and cooling plans in times of crisis

14:30-15:00 Discussion: Solutions and narratives for energy efficiency in times of energy crisis
